ROCKY MOUNTAIN GRANDEUR, 8x10
Title: "Malibu on My Mind"
My 16x20 oil landscape painting, "Malibu on My Mind," captures the serene beauty of California's coastal landscape. Eucalyptus and sycamore trees sway amidst colorful hills, while a tranquil stream winds through the scene. Late-day lighting casts warm hues, illuminating impressionistic clouds in the blue sky. Light dances on the water's surface, highlighting the textured bark of a yellow sycamore. The painting's rich texture invites viewers to immerse themselves in the vibrant scenery, evoking a sense of peace and tranquility. "Malibu on My Mind" serves as a reminder of the captivating allure of Malibu's natural beauty and the enduring inspiration it holds for artists and admirers alike.

As an artist, I am captivated by the timeless beauty and majesty of sailing ships. My oil painting of a sailing ship captures the grace and power of these magnificent vessels, as they glide across the open sea. Through the use of bold brushstrokes and vibrant colors, I sought to convey the sense of adventure and freedom that comes with sailing.
In this painting, I aimed to capture the movement and energy of the ship, as it cuts through the waves and navigates the elements. The play of light and shadow on the sails and hull creates a dynamic and evocative effect, while the deep blues and greens of the sea and sky create a sense of vastness and infinite possibility.
To me, this painting represents the spirit of exploration and discovery, as well as the deep connection between humans and the natural world. I hope that viewers of this painting will be transported to a place of peace and tranquility, and inspired to embrace their own sense of adventure and wonder.

Plein Air Easton is the largest and most prestigious juried plein air painting competition in the United States. Celebrating its 17th year in 2021, the competition is held in Easton, Maryland each July. Plein air painters produce art from life (as opposed to in the studio). Artists from all over the United States and beyond apply to this competition beginning December 1st of the previous year. There will be 58 competing artists painting throughout Talbot County, Maryland the week of July 11th through the 18th. Many of the world's most accomplished artists have Easton at the top of their wish list of competitions and we will continue to set the bar for excellence in the coming year.
The pandemic brought special challenges to the planning process. While many events were canceled or accessible only online, Plein Air Easton rose to the challenge and modified our normally highly attended event to ensure the safety of our artists and guests. Normally PAE events are scheduled throughout the week, in 2020 our events were scaled down to include one major event and a gallery exhibition hall open to everyone. Our roster of artists was also scaled down to include mostly those who were geographically close to Easton. For all 58 juried artists in 2020, their competition spot was promised to them in 2021 regardless if they were choosing to participate in 2020's events.
Quick Facts for 2019:
Art sales for last year's event topped $411,000 with 365 paintings sold in 2.5 days.
Approximately 6,000-8,000 people participate in the festival throughout the week
In 2019 the Collectors' Preview Party alone sold a painting every 45 seconds during a 90 minute period.
Plein Air Easton’s Quick Draw is open to any artist with $10 and ambition. Nearly 200 artists paint for 2 hours in downtown Easton and the event culminates in an outdoor exhibit and sale along South Harrison Street.
Galleries and arts organizations program demos, workshops, exhibits and lectures as part of the event. Next year an exceptional line up of reknowned artists, PAE alumni and esteemed professionals in the art world will be sharing their talents and knowledge during the week of July 12-19.
The weekend of July 18th and 19th will feature an Artisan's Market that will showcase Delmarva artisans displaying many different types of arts from jewelry to pottery to metalworks and much more.

2020 Selected Artists for EnPleinAirTEXAS
(Artists from 20 states were selected from entries from 26 states and 4 continents)
We have been hard at work figuring out how best to move forward with CAPA2020 in these uncertain times. Paramount in our considerations is the health and welfare of our participating artists, our housing hosts, the viability of being able to gather in large numbers and being able to host a meaningful and fun week-long event that will benefit artists and art lovers alike. We have created a hybrid-approach this year, beginning this October 2020 and culminating with a full CAPA Week in May 2021.

Promoting the Appreciation of American Impressionism, the American Impressionist Society presents it’s first online national exhibition! September 10th opening online.
We've all been going through challenging times during the pandemic, and it's tough to predict what our future will look like. But we know one thing for sure: ART MUST BE A PART!
We are not giving up on art education! Schools and the community organizations serving them will be able to carry over funds, and we have limited funds available for new grants to keep art alive for the youth of Sonoma.
We are here to support the professional artists who make our annual festival a success. Many have traveled to Sonoma for nearly two decades! All of the artists have lost opportunities to sell their work this year.
Head over to the sale right now to see the paintings before they are gone. And if you find something you like, buy it!
The show is THIS WEEK only and ends on Saturday, September 12 at 4 pm.
